Choosing the right pole before you choose the light
Every pole on this page is built to order, so the section, height, arm arrangement and finish are decided by the site, not by a catalogue number. The four values below cover what our pole pages actually specify; anything outside them is produced from the project drawing.
| Section | Standard heights | Material | Where it is used |
|---|---|---|---|
| Round conical (tapered round) | 6–12 m | Steel Q235 / Q235B / Q345 | Roads, car parks and courtyards where a smooth continuous taper is wanted |
| Octagonal (8-sided) | 6–12 m | Steel Q235 / Q235B / Q345 | Wind-exposed sites and longer spans where a flat face suits the bracket |
| Square / rectangular tube | 6–12 m | Steel Q235 / Q235B / Q345 | Urban streets and plazas where a straight architectural line is required |
| Mid-hinged | 6–12 m | Steel, hot-dip galvanised | Maintenance access without a crane or platform |
Three decisions that drive the price
- Height. 6–12 m is the standard range; heights from 3 m upwards are produced to the drawing. Height sets the wall thickness and the base plate, which is why a 12 m pole is not a stretched 6 m pole.
- Arm configuration. Single arm, double arm or bracket type is welded at the required height and drilled ready for the lantern. Arm height and outreach are fixed at order, not on site.
- Finish. Hot-dip galvanised is the standard. Galvanised plus powder coating to a RAL colour is available on request and is normally specified for coastal or high-humidity sites.
Questions we are asked before quoting
What height do I need? Height follows the carriageway class and the spacing you already have; the pole does not fix the spacing. Give us the mounting height and the lantern weight and we size the section.
Can the pole take two lights? Yes — single and double arm versions are both built, with the arm height and outreach set per order.
Is the finish guaranteed? Hot-dip galvanising is the standard finish; coating thickness and RAL colour are stated on the order, and we do not quote a service life we cannot document.
Street Light Poles
Conical and octagonal poles from 6 m to 12 m, in Q235, Q235B or Q345 steel, hot-dip galvanised and supplied with the base plate, the arm and the foundation drawing.
Poles Made to Match the Luminaire
A street light is only as good as the pole it hangs on. We supply conical and octagonal poles cut, bent, welded and galvanised as a single unit, with the base plate, door, cable entry and lamp arm already fitted. Each pole is dimensioned to the luminaire it carries, so the arm height, the top diameter and the base plate all match the light you have chosen. Standard poles run from 6 m to 12 m; other heights are produced to the project drawing.
Pole Types
Four sections cover almost every street lighting layout. Conical and octagonal poles share the same dimensional table.
Round & Conical Poles
Tapered round section, 6 m to 12 m — the most economical option for street and area lighting.
Octagonal Poles
Eight-sided section on the same dimensional table, with a flatter face for welded arms and signage.
Square-tube Poles
Square or rectangular section for architectural streets, car parks and double-arm arrangements.
Mid-hinged Poles
A hinge above the base lets the pole be lowered for maintenance without a crane or a platform.

Construction Details
Base Plate & Flange
A square base plate is welded to the pole root and drilled for the anchor bolts, with the weld dressed and the whole assembly galvanised.
Finish & Galvanising
Hot-dip galvanised as standard, or galvanised and powder coated to a RAL colour when the specification calls for it.
Lamp Arms
Single or double arms, welded to the pole at the required height and drilled ready for the luminaire.
How the Poles Are Made
Every pole goes through the same sequence in one workshop before it is packed for export.
Plate shearing → Bending → Welding → Polishing → Straightening → Flange → Galvanising → Packing
Options & Customisation
Height & Thickness
6 m to 12 m as standard, other heights to order; wall thickness from 2.5 mm to 4 mm.
Steel Grade
Q235, Q235B or Q345, stated on the drawing and on the mill certificate.
Finish & Colour
Hot-dip galvanised, or galvanised plus powder coating in grey, black, white or a specified RAL colour.
Door, Cable Entry & Arms
Cable access door, grommet and single or double lamp arms fitted before packing.
Wall thickness by pole height
Section is tapered round steel. Wall thickness is selected from the band below and then confirmed against the wind load at the site.
| Pole height | Wall thickness (mm) |
|---|---|
| 6 m | 2.5 / 3 |
| 7 m | 2.75 / 3 |
| 8 m | 3 |
| 9 m | 3.25 / 3.50 |
| 10 m | 3.5 / 3.75 |
| 11 m | 3.5 / 3.75 / 4 |
| 12 m | 3.75 / 4 |
Arm arrangements available
Every pole in this range is drawn around the arm arrangement the project needs. The table shows how many configurations exist in each group; individual drawings differ by arm geometry and reach.
| Arm arrangement | Configurations |
|---|---|
| Single arm | 11 |
| Double arm, opposite sides, equal height | 17 |
| Double arm, staggered heights | 1 |
| Three arms | 2 |
| Four arms | 1 |
Single arm options include straight, curved, conch and scroll brackets, gooseneck, gull-wing, large-radius arch, mast boom, tie-rod and lattice-braced arms. Double arm options include symmetrical, flat-oval, swept spiral, semi-ellipse, square V, trellis truss and twin-arc brackets. Multi-arm poles are available on a cross layout, at 120 degrees, or with two equal arms and one lower arm.
How a street light pole is specified
- Height — 6 m to 12 m as standard; heights from 3 m upwards are produced to the project drawing.
- Arm arrangement — from the table above, matched to the carriageway width and the luminaire mounting height.
- Wall thickness — from the height table, then checked against the site wind load.
- Finish — hot-dip galvanised as standard, or galvanised and powder coated to a RAL colour.
Each pole is supplied with the base plate, door, cable entry, arm, anchor bolts and foundation drawing, so the civil work and the steelwork are built to the same dimensions. For example, a residential road pole might be specified as 8 m height, single curved arm, 3 mm wall, hot-dip galvanised.
